About this event:
Established in 1964, this reserve, previously part of the Central Karamoja Controlled Hunting Area, is situated in the Karamoja region just north of Moroto, extending along the border with Kenya. Covering an area of 160,000 hectares, it forms part of the Karamoja plateau, characterized by thorny deciduous thicket vegetation. The reserve boasts a diverse range of resident mammals, including lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, eland, roan antelope, and Bright’s gazelle. It serves as traditional pasture during the wet season for herds migrating from southern Karamoja, particularly from the Pian-Upe plains.
