Karuma Wildlife Reserve, established in 1964 and formerly a Controlled Hunting Area since 1962, is located in Western Uganda, adjacent to Murchison Falls National Park. Spanning 675 square kilometers with altitudes between 900m and 1,300m, the reserve features gentle relief with several watercourses and savanna grasslands dominated by elephant grass and Hyparrhenia rufa. It shares borders with the forested zone to the southwest and hosts wildlife similar to that in Murchison Falls National Park, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and various antelope species, with large herds migrating between the two parks.
