About this event:The popular a cappella group, 8 Misses Croon pulls out all the stops with their performance which includes jazz, pop, Afrikaans favourites, spirituals and mash-ups.
“We call ourselves the perfect crossover between classical choral music and modern a cappella, and won’t let anything stand in the way of our passion for music”, says René Venter, a member of the group.
Their new album, Like never before, is being released on CD, iTunes and Google Play during September 2018. It is an eclectic mix of musical styles with arrangements of, amongst others, "Songbird" (Christine McVie), "From both sides now" (Joni Mitchell), "Gabriella's Säng" (Stefan Nillson) "Uninvited" (Alanis Morrisette), "Roar/Brave" mash-up (Katy Perry / Sara Bareilles) and "Bellas Finals" (Pitch Perfect). A few Afrikaans arrangements are also included, such as "Halala Afrika" (Johannes Kerkorrel) and "Onder in my whiskeyglas" (Koos Kombuis). Many of these songs have been arranged by members of the group.
The group was formed in 2013 after the Tygerberg Camerata was disbanded; most of the members of 8 Misses Croon used to be a part of this choir. The current members are Bettie Breytenbach, Chrisna de Wet, Madri Gerber, Elizca Mulder, Talita Olivier, Manina Pretorius, Alana van den Berg, Elizbè van der Colff and René Venter. Many of them were also childhood members of the world renowned Tygerberg Children's Choir. Amongst these nine friends there are married ones, mothers and single ones, with a wide variety of professions, such as music teachers, therapists, a writer, a chef, a project manager, an event organiser, a chartered accountant and a registered nurse.
The group has already performed for several audiences and was awarded category winner at the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod. Their concerts at US Woordfees 2018 were sold out and the group was also invited to perform at the acclaimed production, Ballades II during this festival.
